The Hammond Hotel has had a rich history since established in 1879. Current owner Don Fowell along with his partner Cedric Ellingson took over “The Hotel” on December 31st, 2008. Since then, they have built their business along with another bar and grill in River Falls called Bo’s ‘n Mine on hard work and good service. Located now in the basement of Jacob’s Square, 850 Davis Street, Hammond, WI, Sandy started her photography career working in New Richmond. She started out printing photos and worked for a while at Farm and Home doing so. In 1994, she opened her own photo printing business in Hudson called Freeway Photo. It was there that she decided to start taking photos herself and added a studio onto her shop. In 2003, she moved to Hammond into her current location at Jacob’s Square. For a short period of time in 2006, she took a break, only to come back and re-open as Sandy Brecht Photography embracing digital photography. She now offers not only a photo shoots, but also give her clients a disk of their photos copy right release. She does offer printing still and specialty photographs like cards and composites. On Friday, May 14th, the Central St. Croix Area Ambassadors started their visits at Walker Chiropractic located at Miller’s Corner, Roberts, WI. Dr. Todd Walker moved into the McCabe Chiropractic location in October 2009 and has been treating patients at that location on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday afternoons. Dr. Walker also has an office in Oakdale, MN where he treats patients on the other days of the week and Friday mornings. Dr. Walker is originally from Baldwin, WI where he currently lives with his family. He comes from a family of chiropractors. In fact, 6 of the 7 children in his family are chiropractors including his sister who practices in New Richmond. Jeff and Barb Haas have been running this excavating business for 17 seasons this summer. It all started with Jeff and running equipment with his father when he was 9 years old. He worked for a company in the cities for years tearing out concrete and asphalt while doing side jobs out of his home. In 1993, they decided to make their business official and have been building their business ever since. In 1995, they built a building for their equipment which is located on their own property. They started their visits at the Hammond Community Library where they met with Teri Larsen of T. Larsen Design. Teri has been designing for over 12 years. She graduated from UW-Stout and started out in commercial design, designing tenant lease spaces, corporate offices and medical spaces. She also worked for House Calls and Landsted Builders in Hudson designing residential and commercial properties. She opened her own business a year ago and put an emphasis on design consultations. She enjoys working with people on do-it-yourself projects, paint colors and also new construction. She also believes that interior design isn’t just for the wealthy. It doesn’t have to be expensive and can be as simple as a one hour consult for paint scheme ideas. She also says that unlike most residential designers, her focus is on design, not on selling products. While she can source any interior products for her clients, her first priority is working with the client (within their budget) as a trusted advisor on their projects – not as a salesperson; relationship is top priority. Lisa Christensen has been designing since 2001. While finishing up a design degree at UW-River Falls, Lisa started working at the River Falls Journal in the production department. The she moved to the New Richmond News, then the Central St. Croix News and then finally she started her own business in 2008. She does all different kinds of design and printing including business cards, brochures, post cards, flyers and advertising design. She even does website design with Quick Draw Solutions out of Hammond, WI. Lisa is also on the board of directors for the Chamber, she chairs the Ambassador committee and co-chairs the Good Neighbor Days and Hammond Heartland Days committees and manages the chamber website. Lisa has produced the Hammond and Roberts Community Guide for two years now and she just started The Local Biz in February 2010. Larsen Design), Dave Dalton (Dalton Realty), and Del Permann (Roberts UCC Minister) The Central St. Croix Area Chamber Ambassadors had their monthly visit with the Roberts Congregational United Church of Christ and the Roberts Food Pantry on Friday, July 9 at the brand new church that its parishioners are very proud of. The congregation purchased the 6 acres located along Hwy 12/65 in Roberts, WI, back in the mid 90s and after they paid for the land, they started building their beautiful church that was finished in 2008. They moved to this new church for their 100 year old building located on Warren Street. Interim Minister Del Permann has been with this church in January of 2010. He brings over 50 years of experience to this local church and says he has really enjoyed being a part of this congregation. This church is a social action church and hosts many events including blood drives and monthly dinners and the upcoming National Night Out which will be held on Tuesday, August 3rd from 6-10pm. This pantry is available to anyone that lives within the St. Croix Central School District. Larsen Design), Patti Robertson (WESTconsin Credit Union), Cindy Brown (RESCO), Brad Parrott (Brad Parrott and Associates) The Central St. Croix Area Chamber Ambassadors had their monthly visit for August at the Baldwin Area Medical Center. They were treated to some refreshments and also a short history of this hospital. In 1936, this hospital was founded with a donation from a farmer and today is the oldest hospital in St. Croix County. The Baldwin Area Medical Center is the only freestanding independent hospital having partnerships with various health groups in the Wisconsin and Minnesota region. Services at the Medical Center consist of a primary care clinic, acute care hospital, specialty medical services and emergency medicine. The BAMC is getting set to open the first medical clinic in Roberts. They are planning to open in Miller’s Crossing as of November 2010. Dr. Clemma Nash and medical center support staff will have full time and evening hours and will offer family practice medicine, obstetrics, surgery consultations, laboratory and radiology. Attitudes Salon, located at 1420 Davis Street in Hammond, recently finished a major remodel, and the staff is very excited about what they have to offer new and current customers. Attitudes Salon has added the new services of Body Sugaring (hair removal process similar to waxing but more permanent and less painful) and also now offers Glo Minerals Makeup. In addition to retailing the makeup, Attitudes will offer private lessons as well as group classes in makeup application. There they went on a tour of the radio station and were treated to some interesting history about the station and the area from radio station host, Jeff Peterson. Real County WIXK AM 1590 is owned by Hubbard Broadcasting and has been located in New Richmond, WI on East Third Street since the early 1960s. Hubbard Broadcasting is a family run company and holds radio at the heart. Jeff Peterson has been the voice of weather, sports reports and other event information since the mid 1980s. April Huppert-Greene joined the team in almost four years ago as the account manager and works closely with area businesses to market creatively using an AM local radio station with great opportunities such as Real Deals, radio shows and now streaming LIVE at WIXK.com. They are located in the lower level of the Citizens State Bank building at 500 West Boulevard in Roberts, Wisconsin. They moved from one side of the building to the other and did some interior design for a more professional and comfortable look. Director Jan Reynolds talked about the history of the senior living apartments and let the ambassadors tour one of their open rooms. Heritage Court was built onto the back side of the American Heritage Care Center in 1985 which is located at 425 Davis Street in Hammond. The addition was designed to offer seniors independent living in a secure environment with basic services to help promote independence. Basic services included are weekly cleaning and laundry services, an emergency call system, individual thermostats for personal climate control, separate reserved parking and entrance to apartments, full activity schedule, and a full kitchen in each apartment. Utilities and the noon meal are also included. Tenants also have the option of adding additional services if needed, including bathing assistance, medication management and additional meals. The facility boasts 14 one-bedroom apartments and 3 efficiency apartments. Each has a full bedroom and bathroom, living space and kitchen. There is also a common living area for dining and activities as well as an outdoor patio. Heritage Court is completely separate in operation but is adjacent to American Heritage Care Center. This allows tenants peace-of-mind knowing that an RN is available 24 hours a day for any emergency.Heritage Court Assisted Living also has apartment openings right now.
